This fight sucked horribly- worse, in my opinion, than Koschek’s lay-n-pray in season one of TUF. There is NO excuse for that horrible of a display from ANYONE- I’m betting some of my sparring partners and myself could have taken either of these so-called ‘fighters’. It was a pathetic display of crappyness so horrid I almost smashed the TV.
Matt had an arm injury, yes. That doesn’t change the fact he was sloppy as hell, both standing and his submission attempts in the first round. He played it smart and didn’t aim for the takedowns, but his approach with his punches sucked. He gassed too early, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and call that on his injury. He needs to stick to wrestling and not MMA- he can’t take a hit, he can’t throw a good punch… go back to wrestling Matt, it’ll do you better. Oh, and stop wrestling cows.
Mike Nickles… he had ABSOLUTE ZERO EXCUSE for that display. For a guy who has grappling experience and supposedly comes from the streets, his technique is EXTREMELY CRAPPY, and he has no power behind his punches. Tattoos aren’t everything, people. He gassed really early, and while Shamrock was calling for knees to the head when Matt came in, it looked like he couldn’t even lift his leg, much less do any damage, even with the short knees. His inability to pull a good guard was my first hint he was not what he was made out to be. He turtled on his back, turned when they were standing, dropped his mouthpiece… I want fifteen minutes of my life back, if you count commercials.
