Rich Franklin Update on Injury
According to Franklin himself, he’s rehabbing from his injuries nicely. The current middleweight champ recently posted this on his website, RichFranklin.com:
“The surgery on my hand seems to have taken well, and it is healing rather quickly. We have begun an intense rehab program on my ankle for stabilization purposes, and I have completed the rehab program for my hand. I have been able to ride a bicycle and do an elliptical machine, and will be clear to run and possibly roll lightly next week. I can drill my jiu-jitsu and shadow-box. I started using my hand for lifting last week, but I will not be able to actually punch something until June. ”
Franklin broke both his hands and busted up his ankle in his last bout back at UFC 58 (3/4/06) when he thwarted David Loiseau’s bid for the title. It was originally thought that he would be out for 6 to 8 months, and it looks like that estimate could hold true. There is no official return date set for the champ, but I’ll take a stab and say UFC 64, which should go down some time in November. I’m also guessing we’ll see Rich in George Gurgel’s corner when he makes his Octagon debut vs. Mark Hominick on June 28 at Ultimate Fight Night.
