By choosing to hold its card on April 21, the UFC has ruffled a few feathers this side of the pond. It has long been announced that April 21 would be the date for the latest card from UK's most widely recognized promotion, Cage Rage.

After talking to Cage Rage co-promoter Andy Geer, it's clear that he is not too concerned by the UFC’s move — especially as he has negotiated an incredible coup by signing the massive Bob Sapp.

Sapp recently did wonders for his profile in the UK, causing a massive stir as a stream of UK heavyweights climbed over each other to challenge him at Cage Rage 20. The PRIDE and K-1 veteran is scheduled to take on Sunderland hardman, Robert Berry in a fight that will almost certainly be decided before the final bell.

Other huge news for the promotion is the re-signing of Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, the wild Brazilian who took part in one of the UK's most memorable wars: eventually losing but putting in an incredible performance against Dutch super-striker, Melvin Manhoef.

Cyborg's return fight is a fascinating match-up against UFC veteran James Zikic, who makes his way back to the cage following a self-imposed absence from the sport.

Cagewarriors looks ahead to April

A puzzling decision by a misguided local council recently forced the Cage Warriors promotion to scrap its planned March 4 card, but, undeterred by this disappointment, the team has refocused its efforts for an April 28 event, putting together a solid lineup that also includes 'B Class' bouts for less experienced fighters.

Exciting bouts on the card include Paul McVeigh putting his Cage Warriors bantamweight title on the line against Ireland's undefeated Steve McCombe, and the Wolflair's Alex Cook taking on the dangerous Frenchman Karl Amoussou.

Adding to the headline bouts, Cage Warriors characteristically has some of the top domestic fighters in action, amongst them local favorites Ian Butlin and Dan Hardy.

In other massive news for the Warrior promotions: it was recently announced that Ross Pointon, the mighty Brit that kept U.S. fans entertained during his TUF 3 appearance with an aggressive fighting style — and equally confused by his thick accent — had signed to fight. “Know what I mean?”

Reports suggest that he will be campaigning at welterweight, looking to climb the UK and European rankings to earn another spot on international shows over the coming months.

Warrior Promotions are pleased to announce another bout for their Cage Warriors: Showdown 2 event on December 9th, as the French Submission specialist and Pride Bushido veteran Gregory Bouchelaghem (5-3-0) Sankuno Team will take on the Dutch based Bulgarian Jordan Radev (11-1-0) Sportcentrum KOPS.

This bout was originally due to take place on November 19th has been moved to December 9th and will be for the CWFC Middleweight World Title. This Title is now available due to former Champion Martin Kampmann relinquishing ownership of it due to his commitments with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Gregory Bouchelaghem (5-3-0) makes his forth appearance inside the CWFC octagonal cage and originally made his name in the UK with a 1st round submission win over Mark Weir at XFC 2 in November 2003. He then went on to challenge Weir’s training partner Matt Ewin for his CWFC Middleweight Title at Cage Warriors 7. Their clash was an epic battle which saw Bouchelaghem dominate early on, however Ewin’s superior conditioning saw him fight his way back and stop the Frenchman in round 4 of a epic bout which is still one of the finest moments in CWFC history

Following that loss Bouchelaghem took a year out of competitive MMA action before returning in style at CW Strike Force 1 in May 2005 where he defeated (the now UFC veteran) Ross “The Gladiator” Pointon via rear naked choke. He then went on to submit the rangy Robert Michell at Cage Warriors Strike Force 2 and made it three straight wins by edging out former UFC and Pride veteran Andrei Semenov via Judges’ Decision at M-1: Russia Vs France in November 2005.

Those 3 wins put him in Title contention and the Frenchman was due to challenge Martin Kampmann for the CWFC Title in March, before injury forced the Danish destroyer out. Nevertheless he stayed active and lost a very tight decision against the BTT fighter Roan “Jocao” Carneiro in the opening round of the WCFC Tournament in Manchester.

But his form still impressed many observers and he was called-up for the first round of the Pride Welterweight Tournament at Pride Bushido 11, where he took on one of the world’s top 83kg/183lbs fighters in the imposing form of Paulo Filho, on just a week’s notice. Bouchelaghem tasted defeat again in that bout, but took the Brazilian the distance and earned critical acclaim from many observers who were impressed by his fighting sprit.

Now Bouchelaghem returns to the UK for his second bite at the CWFC Middleweight Title and will be eager to capture the now vacant Title when he faces the powerful Dutch striker Jordan Radev on November 19th in Sheffield.

Jordan Radev is a Dutch based Bulgarian who trains out of the respected Sportcentrum Kops gym in Amsterdam. He was selected for this Title shot due to his impressive knockout victories over the likes of European Shooto standout Raffles La Rose, Red Devil Fight Team member Arshak Dabagihan and a decision win over the Brazilian UFC veteran Jorge Santiago.

However Radev surpassed those achievements on June 18th when he won the -93kg Road to Japan tournament at “2 Hot 2 Handle” on just 48 hours notice. That night Radev powered his way through a 4 man field, defeating Anthony Rea after just 2:24 of round 1. Radev dominated the Frenchman from the opening bell as he hounded Rea around the ring before knocking him out in decisive fashion. Radev then outworked the undefeated German Light-Heavyweight star Martin “King Kong” Zawada (who was 10-0) over a single 10 minute round to seal his place in Japan next year.

Since then Radev snapped the 6 fight undefeated streak of Croatian Igor Brugljan in October and will now looking to claim the CWFC Middleweight Title, when he faces Bouchelaghem on December 9th.

This exciting all European bout is just a small part of what should be an excellent night of Mixed Martial Arts action, which will also see an under 73kg Title bout between Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy and Alexandre “Xandinho” Izidro and much more.
