TUF 4 Fight REVIEW - Shonie Carter vs Rich Clementi
Well, we got the first TUF 4 fight which should be very nice.
Shonie Carter vs. Rich Clementi
Rd. 1 :
The round opens with alot of nothing. Then more nothing, and then a punch from rich and a kick from shonie, into a kick by rich. Takedown by rich, dropping a couple of elbows. Back up on the fence. Shonie almost takes a knee to the face, still on the fence, then he punches for a separation. An exchange occurs, and Shonie connects with a kick afterward. another kick by Shonie, and more nothing. Then Shonie connects nice with a punch and a kick, Rich hits a kick as well. Another Shonie kick/Rich Punch . Shonie takes it to the ground, but gets caught in armbar position. He escapes, Shonie takes side control and drops some shots. Then he stands up and does nothing but kick the legs. Shonie takes a knee to the stomachand is trapped on the fence, taking punches. End round.
I say they both sucked here… 10-9 Shonie(BARELY)
This round DID NOT IMPRESS at all. Neither was willing to fully commit to anything. Starting to piss me off, and it’s only 5 minutes into this fight.
Rd. 2:
This round starts with another kick/punch, and rich takes Shonie down and mounts. Shonie though puts up a nice fight from the bottom and gets into another armbar position. And escapes again, shonie on top throwinf some shots. Rich holds him down nicely, but Shonie manages some body shots and head shots that might be doing some damage. They both throw shots from their respective positions, and they’re both eating some weaker shots. Shonie gets side control and knees, then north-south into another armbar position, and gets out. He’s back in Rich’s guard, bnut gets the back, as Rich sort of lays there struggling for a bit. And againl, Shonie has north-south and they’re up again. Shonie connects some shots and throws a head kick which is blockes. Rich is throwing knees from the Thai clinch, and then they exchange some shots and the buzzer sounds
I say: 10-9 Shonie… better this round.
This round was better, but still not that impressive to me. But yes, Shonie won the fight by the judges cards.
I hope the next one is better.
Xiaolin’s Fight REVIEWS- TUF3 Finale
Jardine vs. Gouveia
Three rounds of mostly leg kicks, with round one to Gouveia and two/three to Jardine. There was a nice exchange of punches in there, but it was mostly leg kicks.
Herman vs. Grove **FINAL**
Round one
It starts with some punches, Ed takes Kendal down, and Ed dominates the whole first round in a similar fashion.
10-9 Ed
Round two
This round opens a bit slower, but then Ed goes for a takedown and Kendall slowly but surely takes control of the round and squeezes out the win for this round.
10-9 Kendall
Round three
This round opens with Ed trying his takedown again, and, like the second, he starts good and Kendall sneaks up and overthrows him for the win, I think the thirty-second RNC at the end clinched it for him.
10-9 Kendall
But White, in his infinite wisdom, pulled a Bonnar/Griffin on this season’s Bonnar/Griffin fight and gave two contracts, only this time, in middleweight category.
Bisping vs. Haynes **FINAL**
Round one
This goes pretty much as I expected, Bisping dominating. Then there’s some knees, and an illegal shot from Bisping which costs him a point. Pure domination…
9-8 Bisping(yes, I think Haynes was THAT bad)
Round two
This also pretty much expected… a few punches traded and then Haynes takes a little nap…
Bisping by KO.
Kenny Florian vs. Sam Stout
Kenny shoots in, gets it down, and then finishes fast with a RNC.
Kenny by tapout submission.
BONUS FIGHT- Hamill vs. Forbes
This was one round of pure domination, Matt taking full advantage of his power.
Matt by ref stoppage, round one.
Xiaolin’s Fight REVIEW- Franklin vs. Dewees UFC 44
Let’s go back a little farther for this one than my last couple of reviews… UFC 44, Franklin/Dewees.
Dewees starts out with a nice kick that misses, then tries a front leg front kick that also misses, but chases Franklin into the fence. A bit of a struggle, then Dewees gets it to the ground- a place Franklin obviously doesn’t want to be in this fight, injury or not. But Franklin catches Dewees in half-gaurdwhile Dewees tries a couple of what looked like guillotine chokes that didn’t quite work. The last guillotine Dewees tries allows Franklin to gain top position, and Dewees doesn’t close guard so Franklin, after a couple punches, stands up an backs out, making him stand up.
A few standing shotsz are thrown, Frankin gets Dewees with a nice kick and forces Dewees into the fence this time. Dewees throws some knees in an attempt to do some damage, but if there was any, Franklin didn’t show it at all. Then, a bit of a small struggle to try and make space fails, and they trade shots for awhile- Dewees driving his heel into Franklin’s leg and Franklin throwing some knees. Then Dewees throws some knees that seemed to lack anything close to any power. Franklin, meantime, is throwing some punches I most definately don’t want to be on the recieving end of.
Franklin throws a big, jumping knee and then a nice flurry of hard punches that stun Dewees good. After they stand up, Franklin lands some more hard knees to the face and a punch or two thrown in for good measure. Knocks Dewees down and tries to finish, but he really doesn’t want to be on the ground, so he allows Dewees back up.
After they get back up, Franklin nails him with a good punch that knocks him down and then kick to the body. Follows down and throws a few shots, good knee to the body, and after a few more knees, the fight is over.
Result: Franklin by ref stoppage.
Xiaolin’s Fight PREVIEW- Ultimate Fight Night 5, June 28
This is my preview for the cable event known as UFN 5 on the 28th of the month. Anyway, if I have a 50.1% accuracy or higher, you owe me a cookie… as always. Enjoy my fight previews, I’m working on limited brainpower after I hit my head earlier today.
Alright, this promises to be an interesting fight card with the fights that for sure will be broadcast and then the fights that may or may not be shown live… let’s start with what we’re garunteed to get:
Chris ‘CRIPPLER’ Leben vs. Anderson ‘SPIDER’ Silva
I’m not that familiar with Silva, but I hear he’s good. He’s fighting the Crippler, Chris Leben- love him or hate him, you KNOW his name, and you know he has serious striking skills and a good chin- I believe we’ve also seen him pull an armbar. I think this will be an exciting three-rounder, with the Crippler coming out with a 29-28 28-29 29-28 split decision.
Crippler via split decision.
Rashad Evans vs. “American Psycho” Stephan Bonnar
Season one meets season two of TUF, when our heavyweight friend from season two Rashad drops to 205 to fight the ever-popular American Psycho from season one, fighting at the same weight he did on the show. I’d love to see Rashad do his little dancing thing in the fight, but I doubt Stephan’s gonna let that happen, I see a slugfest of two rounds, with Rashad getting the TKO roughly half way through the third round.
Rashad by TKO, third round.
Jonathan ‘Road Warrior’ Goulet vs. Luke ‘Silent Assassin’ Cummo
Jonathan Goulet is a fighter I’m not greatly familiar with, but from what I’ve seen he likes to strike. As does Cummo. Cummo, though, I believe hold the advantage with his unusual method of striking and his ability to mentally prepare is hsi biggest advantage, in my opinion. But Goulet has a good chance, though, and I pick him for the win, split decision.
Goulet, split decision.
Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves(MAY NOT BE BROADCAST)
Fitch and Alves should be a good fight too, as I understand both like to strike, though I don’t know much more on specifics. I’m thinking Thiago by a TKO, first round.
Dave Menne vs. Josh Koscheck(MAY NOT BE BROADCAST)
Dave is an impressive fighter, and Josh… subpar at best, in my honest opinion. He has gotten better since TUF, but his only hope is to get a Lay-n-Pray victory against this opponent.
Dave by TKO, second round.
Brandon Lee Hinkle vs. Jason Lambert(MAY NOT BE BROADCAST)
Both are very impressive fighters from what I’ve seen of them, and they both have a roughly equal opportunity to win this one, I think. We’re in for another good fight, possibly a slugfest again, which I see going just over one round.
Lambert by TKO, round 2.
Matt Hominick vs. Jorge Gurgel(MAY NOT BE BROADCAST)
A fight at 155 between two fighters that are exciting as heck. Gurgel is one I’m excited to see fighting again, he took a risk on TUF2 and it didn’t end ideally for him. Hominick is, I believe, coming off a win against the popularly thought 155-champ-to-be Yves Edwards. Both are tough at 155, and I expect someone’s getting hurt in this one. I have to go with my buddy Jorge.
Jorge by unanimous decision.
Rob MacDonald vs Kristian Rothaermel(MAY NOT BE BROADCAST)
Rob is a good fighter, but Kristian sucks horribly. I expect less than a round, with Rob dominating and getting a tapout due to strikes.
Rob by strike tapout
Justin Levens vs. Jorge Santiago(MAY NOT BE BROADCAST)
Neither fighter is well-known to me, but I’ve heard more about Santiago so I’m gonna say Santiago by unanimous decision.
Xiaolin’s fight PREVIEW- Ultimate Finale LIVE- June 24
This is my preview for the 24th. Enjoy my predictions… if they come true, you owe me a cookie Smiley
Ed “Short-Fuse” Herman vs. Kendall Grove
I see this fight could go either way, but I expect two rounds of Ed raining punches from the sky then a third round TKO by Ed.
Then, conversely, I can see Kendall keep it standing and using his reach advantage to work out a descision.
Either way, I wanna see a two round fight, minimum. I can’t see this as a back-and-forth type fight, I think when one fighter starts dominating, that’ll be that.
Mike Bisping vs. Josh Haynes
I can’t see Josh having a chance against Mike B., no offense to Josh, but… Bisping has him outclassed, period. I see one or maby two rounds before we see Bisping KO Haynes… basically, Mike wins.
***MAIN EVENT***
Kenny “Kenflo” Florian vs. Sam Stout
Well, we see KenFlo at his natural 155 against a good lightweight fighter in Sam Stout. I can see Kenny wining one of two ways: Either using those nasty elbows of his and opening a nice cut or a descision. Sam may be able to get a decision or a sub/KO.
This should be an interesting fight, either way… this one could be a back & forth, possible nail-biter if you’re a KenFlo or Sam fan.
Xiaolin’s fight REVIEW- UFC 52 Liddel/Couture 2
This was an interesting fight, and a much anticipated one with the first season of TUF basically promoting it at every commercial. A very interesting fight, Randy doesn’t even try to take Chuck down, which surprised me a little. He wanted to strike with a very good striker- Randy did manage the first clean, solid hit in the fight but Chuch comes back easily, swinging back and connecting a few. Then Chuck gets Randy in the eye, but Randy wants to go on- good for him. But from there it was downhill for him fast- a short flurry from Chuck and Randy just goes down. Following up with another flurry on the ground, Big John pulls Chuck off and Chuck wins.
Result- Chuck by TKO(I don’t think it was an actual KO, but it may have turned into one in a few more seconds.
Xiaolin’s Fight REVIEW- Arlovski vs. Buentello
This is a very short fight, but the first few seconds there were some punches thrown by both sides- none look like good clean hits, but they are throwing- then, about ten seconds in, Arlovski goes for an interesting half-superman punch which knocks Buentello out. You can even tell that Paul got nailed good, he was wobbly after Big John pulled him up.
Result- Arlovski by fast KO
Xiaolin’s TUF review- Ed Herman Vs Rory Singer
Semis: Rory “Outburst” Singer vs. Ed “Short-Fuse” Herman
This promises to be interesting either way, so LET’S GET IT ON! COME ON!
Rd. 1
Nothing eventful the first few seconds, but Ed is throwing a few shots then some chasing. Ends up on the cage where Ed attempts a takedown which didn’t work. His second attempt was more successful, though dropping into Rory’s guard. On the ground, they both throw shots at each other untill Rory ties up Ed’s arm temporarily. This trading of shots on the ground continues for a bit, as they slowly head toward the cage. Ed passes to half-gaurd and they both kinda rest a bit.
It gets back up then down courtesy of Rory. Then Ed connects an illegal shot near the minute left mark, so recovery time and restart in position. Rory gets Ed’s back and starts pounding- slowly but surely. Then it’s back up. And down. Ed on top dropping some shots that look painful. End of round.
Methinks: 10-9 Ed, but it could be a tie somewhere… Not sure.
Rd. 2
Starts with a nice exchange of blows. Then Ed looks like he’s going for a takedown, gets side control on the ground. He appears to be trying a choke, but reverts to GnP when that fails. It’s tied up and no progress for a bit, but Rory’s doing his best to defend. Ed then proceeds to rain elbows from the sky onto Rory’s head. He goes for the RnC and gets it.
Result: Ed by Rear-naked Choke. ED WINS.
Episode Review
Now, instead of JUST doing the normal fight review, I want to review this most entertaining episode.
We start out with Ed leaving Rory’s room for a change of scenery, and then Ed and Jesse or Kendall(I don’t remember which, or both) helped pull all the trees and tree-like objects into Ed’s new room, short a stay as it will be either way- win or lose his fight. Then it starts to escalate, with SOMEONE writing ‘is Gay’ on all the things labeled ‘Rory’ and on Rory’s stuff. So Rory gets REVENGE- way to go, man, didn’t know you had it in ya- writing some stuff on other’s gear, and wiping your ass with Ed’s gloves.
This doesn’t go over well with Ed, as we might imagine, so he goes on his retaliation- peeing on Rory’s headgear, scattering Rory’s stuff about the gym. I was hoping for a true-to-life streetfight right then when Rory confronted Ed outside the gym. In said confrontation, Rory learns Kendall is responsable and they have a scuffle… yeah. That’s about it, then the fight
Xiaolin’s TUF fight REVIEW- Kalib vs. Kendall
Semis: Kalib vs Kendall
Kalib looks good early in the first round, with a few nice knees and a takedown. Kendal gets back to standing anyway, and is throwing some nice hard shots. Kalib kinda dissapointed me later in the first round here, I figured he’d be more aggressive than he was. Kendall’s high kick was answered a short time later by Kalib’s high kick, though neither looked very effective. Kendall finishes the round strong chasing Kalib with a flurry of punches the last few seconds.
Methinks: 10-9 Kendal
This round starts out strong with Kalib’s mid-level kick… that looked like it may have done some damage. I also liked the first kick Kendall threw after getting up from the first takedown. Kalib looked strong through most of this round, but holding the shorts and the cage so much after the ref spoke to him about that… that’s not nice. But Kalib gets a couple of takesdowns and uses a basic lay-n-pray on the last one untill Kendall struggled enough to force himself up. It was a fairly decent round.
I’m loving this fight thus far, the best this season so far. Is it too much to hope for a repeat Bonnar/Griffin finale fight?
Methinks: 10-9 Kendall (though the NSAC judges may have scored it for Kalib, uneducated in MMA as they are)
Round three starts with a good leg kick by Kalib. But Kendal gets a nice shot and probably broke some of Kalib’s ribs. Or possibly not. Game, set, match… Kendall WINS.
Guest Post - Xiaolin’s TUF Fight REVIEW- Matt Hamill vs. Mike Nickels
Taken from the Forum. To comment about this visit the thread here.
This fight sucked horribly- worse, in my opinion, than Koschek’s lay-n-pray in season one of TUF. There is NO excuse for that horrible of a display from ANYONE- I’m betting some of my sparring partners and myself could have taken either of these so-called ‘fighters’. It was a pathetic display of crappyness so horrid I almost smashed the TV.
Matt had an arm injury, yes. That doesn’t change the fact he was sloppy as hell, both standing and his submission attempts in the first round. He played it smart and didn’t aim for the takedowns, but his approach with his punches sucked. He gassed too early, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and call that on his injury. He needs to stick to wrestling and not MMA- he can’t take a hit, he can’t throw a good punch… go back to wrestling Matt, it’ll do you better. Oh, and stop wrestling cows.
Mike Nickles… he had ABSOLUTE ZERO EXCUSE for that display. For a guy who has grappling experience and supposedly comes from the streets, his technique is EXTREMELY CRAPPY, and he has no power behind his punches. Tattoos aren’t everything, people. He gassed really early, and while Shamrock was calling for knees to the head when Matt came in, it looked like he couldn’t even lift his leg, much less do any damage, even with the short knees. His inability to pull a good guard was my first hint he was not what he was made out to be. He turtled on his back, turned when they were standing, dropped his mouthpiece… I want fifteen minutes of my life back, if you count commercials.
